My cooking class at Green Garden Thai in Bangkok

In January 2025, I chose to attend a Thai cooking class at Green Garden Thai Cooking School in Bangkok. I was really looking forward to learning how to make some of the most iconic Thai dishes, under the supervision of a local chef. And I had a great time.

The dishes worked

We started by preparing essential sauces :

  • tom yam sauce,
  • peanut sauce;
  • green curry paste.

These aromatic bases are fundamental for authentic flavors.

Then we cooked a series of savory dishes :

  • the famous tom yam soup;
  • a creamy variation made with coconut milk;
  • crispy fried spring rolls;
  • the classic pad thai;
  • the fragrant massaman curry.
  • la sauce tom yam,
  • la sauce aux cacahuètes (peanut sauce) ;
  • la pâte de curry vert.

We continued with the green papaya salad, where the contrast between crunch and spiciness creates a perfect balance.

For dessert, we prepared a succulent brown sticky rice with mango. And to cool down after so much effort, nothing beats a delicious Thai iced tea.

Each dish was made by our own hands, following the teacher’s precise instructions. With pre-cut ingredients, we could concentrate on wok cooking and seasoning.

The portions were so generous that I came home with a full doggy bag!

An exceptional teacher

Our culinary guide, Jenny, was amazing from start to finish. With impeccable English, she made every step accessible and fun. Her sense of humor and singing talent added a unique touch to the class.

Every moment spent in his company was as instructive as it was entertaining.

The course lasted about four hours , but the time flew by thanks to the smooth pace and relaxed atmosphere. A small booklet with the recipes is given, so that you can remake them at home, so you can concentrate only on the present moment.

There were only three of us, which made the experience even more intimate and interactive. A small group is ideal to fully benefit from the teacher’s personalized advice and avoid long waits.

The price

The course costs around 1,200 baht, which varies depending on the dishes chosen. This may seem high for life in Thailand, but after comparing options in Bangkok, it turns out that this price is within the norm for such quality. In the end, the experience and know-how gained are well worth the investment.

If you are visiting Bangkok and you like to cook, do not hesitate to book a class. You can send an email to hello@visirank.com and ask for any day and time : morning from 9am to 12pm or afternoon from 2pm to 5pm.

You will leave not only with unforgettable flavors, but also with skills that you can share over a good meal at home!
